ANDY
IRONS
(July 24, 1978 – November 2, 2010)
I met Andy when he was around
15. Andy and Bruce came to California each
summer for the NSSA Nationals, and of course
they were both tearing it up out in the
water, which is originally what caught my
attention. Over the course of Andy’s
professional career, he won three world
titles ('02, '03, '04), three Quiksilver
Pro France titles ('03, '04, '05), two Rip
Curl Pro Search titles ('06 and '07) and
20 elite tour victories including the Vans
Triple Crown of Surfing four times from
2002-2006. On September 3, 2010 he won the
Billabong Pro in Tahiti. Andy and his family
hosted the Annual Irons Brothers Pinetrees
Classic, a contest for the local Hawaiian
groms. The Governor of Hawaii declared February
13 forever "Andy Irons Day". He
is the only surfer to have won a title at
every venue on the ASP calendar. Tragically,
Andy passed away in November, 2010, and
I'll forever be unable to ask him to add
a few words to his page -You are missed
Andy!
