Namotu
Island is a four star private island with a position unmatched
in the Fijian archipelagos. It is the last atoll to the south
on a chain of reef known as the Mamaucas and is 5 miles off
the west coast of the main island, Viti Levu.
Apon arrival, and once you clear customs you will be greeted
by the transportation staff, who will take you to the island
via a 30 minute journey in our private airconditioned bus, followed
by an awesome a 15 minute boat trip to the island. Shortly after
arrival you will be briefed by management on our facilities,
conditions, activities and meal times.
Freshness, innovation and the best of local and imported produce
is included in the Island cuisine. For example, experience the
taste of fresh-caught fish such as Island-caught Yellowfin Tuna
served as sashimi (Japanese-style raw fish) or poki (a Hawaiian
raw fish recipe) at sunset on most days, along with pacific
oysters, prawns and a mix of other hors d'oeuvres. For meat
lovers, only the best quality lamb and beef is imported from
New Zealand and Australia
All bures have views of neighbouring islands, mainland mountains
and reefs. Six Beach Bures provide a very personalised and exclusive
experience. All have private bathrooms with hot and cold running
water and showers.
Depending on the ocean tides, Namotu Island sits about 10 acres
in size, and is surrounded by an awesome coral reef. The weather
is South Pacific tropical with a dryer period from April-October.
November through March is a wetter, warmer time, but can also
offer lighter winds and cleaner conditions. The surf is most
consistent in the winter months (May-September) but can be excellent
year-round, with the summer period offering the occasional hurricane
swell along with the more consistent ground swells. The fishing
is some of the best in the world, I caught an array of yellow-fin
tunas, wahoo’s, barracuda’s, a 6’ white tip
shark and a 7’tiger shark... (They ate my tunas). The
luxerious accomodations and staff on hand make this a 5-Star
resort, whom wait on you to ensure that your visit is enjoyable.
A typical day might include a healthy breakfast of island papayas
or a made to order omlette, some surfing, snorkeling or scuba
diving on the beautiful coral reefs and delicious freshly-caught
fish and freshly made pasta and green leaf salads for lunch.
There is so much to do on the island, but the occasional naps
in the hammocks are a MUST! Then it’s cocktails by the
pool or in the spa to wind down and enjoy a magnificent South
Pacific sunset before dinner. I might add, the BAR was a favorite
hangout, drinking "SKULL DRAGS" was the challenge!
Namotu
Lefts - This left breaks all year from three
feet to ten feet. Namotu lefts peel off across the reef
directly in front of our Sunset Bar and dining area. The
lefts are also an excellent long-boarding wave on smaller
days. When swell conditions exceed six feet this break
develops into a barrelling and challenging wave. Regardless
of swell size, Namotu lefts break in deeper water. |
Swimming
Pools - This break is one of the prettiest locations
to surf on this planet. Pools breaks in crystal clear
water from two feet to six feet. It becomes a high performance
wave over four feet, with crisp clean barrels - a sweet
safe wave for any surfer. Pools breaks all year, but provides
its best surfing between November and April, when north
to north-west winds are more common |
Wilkes
Pass - You look directly into the barrel of Wilkes
from our dining area and Sunset Bar. Wilkes delivers a
hollow right-hander that wraps around a 180 degree reef
with rides of up to two hundred meters. Wilkes can be
extremely challenging, when sizeable, it breaks from 3-15
feet. Wilkes breaks all year but excels between November
and April. |
